125 YEARS OF THE SAUSALITO PORTUGUESE HALL

It is an exciting time to be involved in the Hall. Membership is rising, volunteer morale is soaring and our cultural festivals are gaining popularity.
An integral part of the Hall’s renaissance is the establishment of volunteer committees, who
organize everything from food, festas, and volunteer appreciation
activities to planning our 125th anniversary celebration.
As a member you are encouraged
to participate any way you can
even if it is simply to enjoy sopas
with family and friends. See you at

The IDESST is a Portuguese Social Hall established in Sausalito, California in 1888 as a focal point for Portuguese and Azorean culture and traditions in Marin County. First and foremost is the Azorean tradition of the "Festa do Espírito Santo" (Festival of the Holy Ghost).
Marin County has a long history of Portuguese and Azorean immigration, and Portuguese Hall remains a gathering place for second, third, and fourth generation descendants seeking to re-connect with their rich Portuguese heritage, culture and roots. The IDESST Hall continues to serve its members, their families and future generations by preserving and promoting Portuguese and Azorean history, traditions and culture into the 21st century.
The Hall sponsors many fun and exciting events in Marin County for
the entire family. In addition to the Holy Ghost Festa, the Hall sponsors or
promotes the “Festa de Natal” (Christmas festival), “Dia de Portugal” (Day
of Portugal), “Noite de Fado” (Evening of Fado music), traditional dances,
excursions to bullfights (in the Central Valley), language lessons, educational
classes, Portuguese cooking classes, and casual social gatherings. Of course,
no Portuguese event is complete without food and wine and the IDESST Hall is
fortunate to have the dedication and Portuguese gourmand culinary explorations
of Manuel Azevedo, of the renowned Portuguese Restaurant in Sonoma,
LaSalette, as its Executive Chef.
